September | October news

September and October are months of composing and reflecting on subjects for new productions, with some wonderful exceptions:

my concert on the organ and grand piano in the church of Hørsholm on 24 September, and the trip to North Zealand, Denmark, that came with it. I’m equally looking forward to the invitation to a panel with Iris ter Schiphorst, a contemporary composer and dear friend, on 18 October. The Ensemble Zafraan will play her compositions throughout the day, and in the evening we’ll talk about the exciting, musically creative 1990s in Berlin, together with Iris, Jochen Sandig, Christina von Braun and Dr Ingrid Wagner.

On 25 October, HR2 repeats our radio play production Hyperbolische Körper, with a text by Andrea Geißler. In spring 2020, during the lockdown, I recorded it in my studio. It is a dialogue fantasy between the two mathematicians Sofia Kovalevskaya and Maryam Mirzakhani. I engaged Jasmin Tabatabai and Valery Tscheplanowa, as one of them speaks Farsi and the other Russian. The radio play embraces all these languages, and I love to create multilingual radio plays.

The work was very intense, as we all experienced the pandemic for the first time and did not know how close we could get to one another. My studio has glass doors, so we could keep our distance during recording. The pandemic also made us creative, so we recorded parts in my garden and in the Schlosspark.

The play was among the jury’s top three at the ARD Hörspieltage 2020, and the audience gave it the Publikumspreis, the ARD Online Award. The festival took place only virtually that November.

I highly recommend listening to it: it is a fantasy about life, mathematics and female perspectives on science!
